Teaching various physical disciplines and helping people to a fitter healthier lifestyle has been my passion for more than 25 years. After a long career as a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer, working in some of London’s leading training establishments, I qualified as a Fitness Instructor, and worked as a Personal Trainer, specialising in weight management, pre and post natal exercise and rehabilitation from injury.
A chance meeting with a leading Ashtanga Yoga teacher on an aeroplane over 20 years ago led me into my first yoga class, and I began to discover the joy and countless benefits of regular yoga practice. In May 2005 I completed The Life Centre Teacher Training Course (now Yogacampus) and since then, have been teaching yoga from West and Central London, through to the City, whilst continuing to study and develop my own practice. In 2011 I qualified as a Garuda Matwork Teacher, this beautiful combination of yoga, Pilates and dance continues to influence my practice and teaching. I have also trained to teach Yoga and Mindfulness to teenagers, and have recently qualified as a Sports Yoga coach. Since 2013 I have been a Contact Teacher for Yogacampus, helping teacher trainees on their journey to qualify as yoga teachers.
Yoga is a huge influence in my daily life, and I am lucky and privileged to have lovely students. My greatest love and inspiration is my wonderful daughter, Emily, a toddler when I became a yoga teacher and now a crazy teen! I am passionate about, and devoted to, my friends, family, dance, Greece, and Liverpool Football Club.
I always aim to teach with compassion, physical empathy, humour and the absolute belief that I can help each individual in my class to a greater understanding of their own physique and its potential.
"I attended one of Karen’s classes at a gym 9 months ago with no great intent to take up Yoga but have been hooked ever since – I now attend her classes 2-3 times a week. They are always interesting and varied and there’s a great energy that makes me able to take my practice further than I might have expected.
Karen has a remarkable ability to engage with the people in the class (even when it is heavily subscribed). She knows their names, the level they are at and where she can safely guide them."
"I love Karen’s capacity to surprise me in every class I do with her. The sequencing of each of her classes is so inspired and there is always something new either in approaching an asana in a different way, or a new way to incorporate flow from one asana to another. There is infinite time in Karen’s voice, instruction is never hurried no matter how dynamic the class sequence is."
